Taking care of and responsibility for old people
Housing
The level of services, accommodation and responsibility for the elderly people differs depending on the various types of establishment :
46 residential homes, throughout PARIS and the Paris Region provide accommodation for about 3,000 elderly people who are fully self-sufficient and capable of living independently in their own home (one or two rooms) in a block of flats.
All the residential homes are designed to favour keeping the elderly in their own homes, but a certain number of A.R.E.P.A. residential homes have reinforced this policy by co-ordinating everyday care, home nursing and home help services. 7 of our residential homes currently operate on this basis.

21 nursing homes with a medical care section, throughout the Paris Region and in the following Departments : Aube, Charente, Côte d'Or, Rhône, Vienne and Yonne - take charge of elderly people who are becoming dependent and who, apart from accommodation, also need the staff's assistance for care, nursing, drug administration and help with everyday life.
14 of these nursing homes also provides protected living units for disoriented elderly people, such as Alzheimer sufferers, and one such home also takes care of ageing disabled adults.
2 nursing homes (Gonesse and Saint-Gratien) operate both as residential homes and nursing homes with a medical care section. These combined homes have the advantage of enabling the elderly to remain in the same place should they become dependent.

Home helps
500 employees also visit 2 250 people in their homes each month, through two specialised Associations :
S.A.M.-A.R.E.P.A., founded in 1968 : an Association for home helps which extends beyond the residential homes to intervene in homes that are not managed by A.R.E.P.A. and in the elderly people's own homes. They work frequently in partnership with mutual benefit societies.
A.M.G.A.D., founded in 1989 : an Association which acts as official representative for the elderly, for home nursing and home helps, thus complementing S.A.M. - A.R.E.P.A.
The key points of the A.R.E.P.A. organisation are research, meetings, exchange and experience. It is twinned with the Swiss Foundation, "Les Pergolas" and welcomes many foreign delegations, takes part in consulting missions in France and in EEC countries and acts as an alternative solution in gerontology.
On behalf of the Hope associations (Housing for Older People in Europe), AREPA represents French managers of old people's homes.
